Current solutions to support men miss the mark. Despite hard work, we continue not to address some core issues that affect men’s mental health: belonging, connection, and meaningful experiences. Unfortunately, men’s strong pride and shame traditionally prevent them from seeking help.
As men age, they are more alone and more isolated from their communities. Either they die a slow death, or they act out their loneliness with aggressive acts. We all suffer with these men.
When given an opportunity, a man will interact with other men when they are authentic. In spite of little mastery around emotional connection, we know when it’s safe to be ourselves. We only open up when other men are doing the same.
When a community supports genuine interaction between men, others benefit.
